M-1 Visa
The M-1 visa is a type of U.S. student visa specifically for international students who wish to pursue vocational or technical education in the United States. The M-1 visa is usually valid for the duration of the program, plus a 30-day grace period, but cannot exceed one year initially. Extensions can be granted if needed to complete the course. M-1 visa holders are not allowed to work during their studies.
In compliance with SEVIS, the M-1 Student Visa is granted only to students enrolled in flight training for the following Part 141 courses: Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, and the Professional Pilot Program. If the requirements of Part 141 are not met, students may switch their curriculum to Part 61 at any point during the program.
